Gt.Shefford
Evening, Hopefully someone can help me; I’m detailing a Bachmann 37411 to represent The Scottish Railway Preservation Society circa 2010. I’ve been trying to find out when 37411 obtained its Eastfield depot ‘Scottie dog’ vinyl’s and were the applied to both sides? Also does anyone know when it lost its small Transrail vinyl? Jonathan. Gt.Shefford
Morning, Guess its sods law that only an hour after posting the above request I should chance upon a photo of 'the other side' of 37411 which confirms that 37411 did in fact carry the Eastfield Scottie dog vinyl on both sides. It would appear that the TRANSRAIL vinyl was removed before 2004/5. Question answered but any further information welcomed Jonathan.
RMweb Premium eldavo Posted February 10, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 10, 2011 Oh poo. That means I've got to go and dig out my scottie dog transfers as mine only has a dog on one side. Couldn't find a single picture of it with a dog on the other side when I was looking. On the other hand at least the emblem will be visible at exhibitions as up till now it has always been on the operating side! Cheers Dave
trisonic
They were transfers of West Highland Terriers NOT Scotties............................. Written as an owner of a Westie (which are little devils....). Best, Pete.
Gt.Shefford
Just looked back at the site where I picked up the 'Scottie dog' reference, (http://www.kirwindesign.co.uk/Eastfield_real.htm) and it does indeed refer to the mascot/logo as a West Highland terrier. I can only claim a defense of ignorance on that one. Eldave, could I ask whose decals you used for the Terrier logo, I'm intending to print my own using EXPERTS-CHOICE decal paper (http://hobby.uk.com/clear-decal-paper-sheet.html) Jonathan. trisonic
Ha, Don't take me too seriously! West Highland Terriers are always white or white with a creamy coloured back. Scotties are invariably black and quite a bit larger. Best, Pete.
37176
I know the fella who put the dogs on. I'll ask him when he did it.

If I recall they do a sheet of Scottish depot plates/insignia. Cheers Dave
Gt.Shefford
Thanks, just ordered the depot sheet from Fox. Its amazing the difference that knowing the correct breed of dog makes. One plus point with using Fox transfers is that I won't have to try and colour match the EWS gold band on the white decal paper. Jonathan
Mark 37
Fox transfers I think. If I recall they do a sheet of Scottish depot plates/insignia. Cheers Dave Railtec http://www.railtec-models.com/catalog.php?type=5&subtype=5111 Replica Railways http://www.replicarailways.co.uk/transfers/oo-gauge Fox http://www.fox-transfers.co.uk/products.cgi That's all the manufacturers that I found online for Westies and stags. magic_monkey09
Jonathan. To acurately model 37411 circa 2010 it would be very boring as the machine never ran under its own power at all during 2010 and has been stored unservicable at Eastleigh for some time. The machine lost its EWS livery in April 2005 when it was repainted at Toton it into heritage BR green on behalf of Arriva Trains Wales. It also lost the nameplates 'The scottish railway preservation society' in favour of 'Caerphilly Castle'. So strictly speaking it would be in-accurate to run 37411 In EWS livery post April 05 on a layout set 2010 onwards Regarding the Removal of the Transrail Logo I would assume it was somtime during 2004 as the loco had its EWS livery 'Tarted up' prior to running the last loco hauled Leeds-Carlisle service (basically it gained a new coat of EWS maroon, red bufferbeams and silver buffers, Possibly new Westie logo's although it did carry at least one of these already,). Here's a pic of it in BR green at Eastleigh Here's a pic of it in the Livery you want to create http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=174711
Gt.Shefford
Thanks magic_monkey09 for the potted history. That would explain the lack of post 2005 photos of 37411 in EWS livery. Looking through a folder of reference photos this morning, it would appear that the 'tarting up' occurred between the 9th & 22nd of Sept 2004. Jonathan Yes it was roughly between those dates, I remember seeing 37411 and 37408 working the Rhymney's not long after they were transferred south and they were lookin very 'glossy' then B) 411's EWS paintwork was in fabulous condition at the time of its re-paint into Green, I beleive it was painted to commemorate the end of loco-haulage on the Rhymney valley line not because it was in a tatty state. 37408 on the other hand which wore a pretty much identical livery to 411 suffered severe collision damage whilst stabled overnight at Rhymney resulting in the loco being prematurely withdrawn and eventually scrapped.
