RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted March 2, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 2, 2011 I've been mixing some Humbrol enamel concoctions and need to know the best way to store the screw top paint jars. Is there any advantage in storing them upside down? Any advice please. Thanks John
RMweb Premium mirreles31 Posted March 3, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 3, 2011 Hi John, if your paint jars are like the ones Raimatch paint comes in then in my experience the best way took after them is to ensure the top rim of the jars & inside of the lids are clean before tightening them. This stops the lids becoming 'welded' to the jars and the seal of the jar/lid seems to deteriorate when it is caked in paint and the paint is more likely to dry out. I don't know about storing upside down never done it, I've heard of it being done with tinlets. I think this is to do with the paint itself will form an effective wet seal not allowing any slight entry of air, preventing it forming a skin on top of the paint. RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted March 4, 2011 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 4, 2011 Thanks for the useful tip. I've always been too idle to clean up the lids/tops and then wonder why they won't come off and the paint has gone off!
