Coddy
Can anybody tell me how many pullman coaches have been produced by the model manufacturers, over say the last 10/20 years, names and numbers etc, would love to collect the set/s. Were the pullmans used for different trains, such a the Orient, Golden Arrow etc, or were the same coaches utilised? Any reading material on these coaches that people could recomend?? AMJ
There are various books on Pullman coaches. IIRC Haresnape did one. You might want to get both the Parkin MkI book for the MkI based vehicles and the Mk2 by Harris for the Liverpool/Manchester coaches. There are comments in various books about the vehicles being moved between services as needed. An example of this is the 'Wells Fargo' made up with some MkI and other vehicles as a substitute for the Blue Pullman. Mentioning the Blue Pullman Roberton did a book and supplement about this famous diesel train. Some of the carriage working diagrams have details about what types of vehicles were in what services. I have one for ECML in 1960's and it mentions Bar car which in MkI era means only one vehicle (Hadrian Bar)! Edit: There is a newseries of books about each of the types being produced. Check out any good railway book shop (online) for the ones mentioned above.
