First N Gauge weathering

Recommended Posts

Hello this is my first go at weathering airbrush and powders , tried to find a real photo of a brake van on internet could not find one . Comments good and bad apreciated, also looked at my locos n gauge they dont seem to be that detailed ,the point im making is weathering them seems very difficult as the details are so small rivets pipe work ect unlike oo where you can clearly see all the details . Any pointers on the best way to proceed. Cheers Bassett

If this is your first N gauge weathering, you're a natural! This is beautifully done and I'm guessing that you must have done weathering in other scales. Congratulations, there's nothing I can add to help you, although you could give me some pointers!

Hi Basset, this looks really good and I'm surprised that it's a first attempt. For weathering inspiration google- gallery 6801 it's Paul Bartlet's gallery of wagon phots. I'm a 4mm modeller so have never weathered in 'N' but there are some out there that do and I'm sure you will probably hear from them, however from what I can see you're already doing well and it can only get better ;) cheers Phil.

Hi Bassett, you beat me to it! Looks great, too...

I really need to start the weathering process...one quick question - do you use a matt varnish to secure the powder, and if so which one? I don't have an airbrush and will be using acrylics and powders so will need a varnish of some sort...
