RMweb Premium Kris Posted March 14, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 14, 2011 That's fascinating. I wonder if they would grow a second time after the heat has been removed, or if it is a one shot trick.
bertiedog
Not sure what chemistry is being used, but may be related to specialist cyano componds, which expand and set on moisture, air, and heat contact, or could be made from very refined corn starch, which also reacts under heat, but usually higher than a lamp produces.. Silicone is mentioned in some of the references, but seems unlikely as it is inert to heat at this level, apart from speeding setting up. Could be related to the expansion in Vinyl expanding glues, that react with moisture and set with expansion, like Gorilla glue. It should be mentioned that similar effects can be got with simple scatter materials used as flowers, a less costly alternative.
