Loch Ectary1
I am building a modern image 00 gauge layout set on the WHL and am stuck with what to do with a (roughly) 2ft square corner of the layout. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Loch Ectary
kandc_au
Have you thought about an old castle! Rugged rocky scenery! The edge of a Loch with a curved scenic background! not being from the UK they are just quick suggestions. khris
Phil Howe
I know it's a bit 'Trak-Mat', but what about a church? This one might be a candidate for a not-too-ambitious scratch-build: http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&gbv=2&tbm=isch&sa=3&q=Church+of+Our+Lady+of+the+Braes&btnG=Search+images is fairly typical of the region, stands not far from Lochailort station and is visible from the line from Fort William to Mallaig. I know it's 140 years old and you wanted modern image but, hey, it's still there today ATB Phil
Loch Ectary1
Thanks for all your help- I think I'll go for a rocky incline with a few pines along with the church you mentioned to add a little extra interest. Many Thanks, Loch Ectary1
sulzer27jd
Why not just model a rock outcrop without any of the obvious additions. You could model the rock fall warning wires which would add interest and wouldn't have been done 1000 times before. J
Waverley West
How about modelling the edge of a tidal loch, with those classic different coloured bands on the rocky shore from the water level upwards? That's really something I want to model one day. Cheers, Dave
emac
As you are modeling the WHL what about a version of Achallader Farm it also has a castle ruin, river and farm outbuildings and not far from the West Highland Line Achallader Farm Link
Loch Ectary1
That idea about the netting sounds really interesting and I think I'll add that to some of the rocks/ boulders on the incline which will, at nearer the botttom have some of the striped rocks you mentioned as 'Loch Ectary' is supposed to have reduced in size (a lot) and the flat at the bottom is the old (is there another word for this?) lochbed. Any suggestions for a suitable material for the wire netting would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks, Loch Ectary1
TREEMENDUS
Organza would be perfect for creating the kind of netting you need. It's used for dressmaking and fancy dress cloths etc and available in lots of colours too, it's also simple to paint/weather. You can get it in different grades too and should be able to a suitable sized piece for next to nothing. Hope this helps Ant
