devondynosoar118
Sounds like a plan. Set track points are always a bad idea. The 03 and 04 are both good models, they share the same mechanism and DCC conversion is possible with a very small chip. My 03 ran really well on DC too. QRModeller
I know what you mean r.e. points, especially when you want smooth, slow running for shunting. I would have used the smallest radius streamline points but I had the two setrack points left over due to a brain snap when I was purchasing all of the track for Ashworth! Matt. QRModeller
Bump! Whoa, been more than three months since I last posted! Well the brisbane show didn't quite go according to plan (for me at least). Couldn't find anything I had on my list so bought them from Hatton's instead. I did buy a small signal box for the plank though so it wasn't all bad. Today, my package from Hatton's arrived with an 03, two wagons and Dapol's new coupling system. Unfortunately, the wagons don't have NEM coupler pockets (could have sworn the images on the website showed the wagons as having them!) so while I can install the Dapol magnets, I can't test the system. I'm off to another show tomorrow so I'll try and get a couple of wagons that do have NEM pockets. I only have a few more weeks left before my holidays begin so next update, there should be some progress being made and some more pics uploaded! Till then, thanks for looking. Comments and criticism are very welcome. Matt.
devondynosoar118
That is why I use DG couplings. If you are cutting all the coupling boxes off, it doesn't matter wether they were nem or not! Hope you get the bits you need.
QRModeller
Me again! Well, having finished uni for this semester at 12noon yesterday (due date for last assignment), I can now spend a full four weeks railway modelling! Ok, so, after discovering the two new wagons I bought didn't have NEM coupler pockets after all, I went to another, smaller show to try and find some but to no avail. However, the show was close to two model shops so after a visit to them, I managed to come away with a Dapol Cargowaggon which does have the NEM pockets All of my recent purchases Last night, I was finally able to run-in the 03. It's still a bit noisy running forward but a bit more running and possibly a little bit of oil and the noise should disappear. Today, I installed the magnets on the plank and have had a bit of a play tested the couplers. They unhitch alright but getting the delayed uncoupling to work is a bit problematic at the moment. I think the NEM pocket on the 03 is a bit tight as the jaw of the coupler opens but when I draw the loco away from the wagon, the whole coupling doesn't move to the side, unlike what happens on the wagon. Any other ideas about what may be going on? Thanks for looking, comments and criticsm welcome. Matt.
QRModeller
Got an unexpected surprise this morning. Last week, I ordered a few items from CR Signals (usual disclaimer) and was expecting them to rock up sometime next week but they arrived today! The package contained a number of led's, three of which are disguised as yard lights, and all are destined for the plank. In other news, since my last post I have been building another of the warehouses for the plank. This is my first proper scratchbuild, not including a wonky and epically out of scale shed-type-thing in 4mm, made out of balsa, match sticks and paddle pop sticks when I was 10 (good god, that was nearly a decade ago! ). The warehouse is made using Scalescenes texture sheets and windows, with one of the lights that arrived today added above the door. As I decided to take pictures as I went along, I'll let them do the talking: Marking Out Test Fit 1 Windows Cut Out Brick Paper Added Window Glazing and Door Added Test Fit 2 End Walls Roof Tile Strips Glued On Ridge Tiles Added Test Fit 3 Wall Light Added End Walls and Interior Supports Added Nearly Finished The roof isn't glued on yet because I need to add the resistor to the light so I'm going to leave it off until that's done, otherwise it may get in the way a bit. Final detail items like gutters and downpipes still need to be sourced but will be added in due time. There is also going to be a loading bank between the door and the track, but I won't build that until the warehouse is on the layout. It's been wet all week here, but today the sun was out all day so hopefully tomorrow, I'll be able to get out the airbrush and paint the track. Hmmmmm, airbrushing, another first for me! That's it from me for now, thanks for looking. Comments and criticism welcome. Matt.
Coldgunner
Was very suprised with my Farish 3F and how well it runs. I like the Lyddle End stuff, shame its getting difficult to find. I got the police box, now I need to find a man with a scarf for it...
QRModeller
... shame its getting difficult to find. ... Last I heard, Hornby were discontinuing the Lyddle End range I think the signal box I got was out of the catalogue long before the range was discontinued though, the plastic covers' gone yellow! Also just a quick note to say that the planned airbrushing session didn't happen; I can't find the airhose Oh well, I'll post an update once I have though. Matt.
