witherbrow
morning everyone got woken up early today so decided to do a bit of container building - as i said ive difficulty cutting the heavy card on scalescenes ones so i though id give the lighter card easy option a go (link here http://www.igshansa.de/igsorg.html ) these were alot easier to cut and build but they do sacrifice a bit of realism: as you can see scalescenes have much more detail and are bigger in length, height, and width - so do i carry on and use the easy builds or risk some slightly off-cut but cosmetically better scalescenes? - lastly this pic shows how both look on the scene itself: any ideas? KevinWalsh
Hey Ash, for what it's worth, I'd go with the scalescenes ones as they look the dogs danglies. Kev
witherbrow
for what it's worth, I'd go with the scalescenes ones as they look the dogs danglies. i think it will be for the best really my wrists are going to hate me for it lol - ill percivere with doing my own cutting for now and hopefully get some ok results on a update tangent - the grassy mound is all painted and partially 'scenicked' and ive made a start gluing the security fences to bases - still waiting on how to attatch the people. but the biggest news as far as im concerned is that ive bought a resin model of what appears to be a version of hornbys sierra. search Hornby OO Gauge Resin Car Kit 1_76 Scale- on ebay if you want a peek now to me this looks some-what like a cossie, ok maybe not a rs500 but definetly a rs cosworth) - im hoping to give it a lick of paint and add a few minor details and i can finally have a 1:76 cossie yay yay yay :) :)
KevinWalsh
Ash, To attach the population, have you considered gluing a thin tack to the bottom of their feet and then pushing the tack into a hole in the baseboard?
witherbrow
Ash, To attach the population, have you considered gluing a thin tack to the bottom of their feet and then pushing the tack into a hole in the baseboard? fantastic idea! ive got plenty of track pins that should do the job
witherbrow
a fantastic day off lot of progress today :) as i said i was going to perceive with the card cutting - i decided to break it down into 'factory floor' style of building - very thing was cut out seperately and put into piles - so now i have several piles of card all ready to go together pics say a thousand words so have a butchers: following the many containers i had a crack at gluing the base layers etc.. i managed top do all the sides but ended up only doing six end layers as the glue was getting annoying so i thought id stop before i do some damage as you can see lovely and colorful - although i made every attempt to get thing as straight and square as poss, i know there's knackered bits but i make no apologies for this - its done the best i can and im happy with it - thanks to kev who unwittingly gave me a kick to do this the track is down but its still drying so no piccy for that yet, ive also tried to affix the population using a track pin glued to the bottom of said person and pinning it in - alas the board im using is too tough but Ive got another idea! im just going to glue them straight in ha! - Ive found UHU will be sufficient to glue the people down but wont do and damage to the figure itself so i can use it again if needed :) - i have found another use for the pins however - and that is to attach them to the bottom of the fences so i can pin them in - they will be going into softer cardboard so will sit nicely - again a pic of what im on about there were very fiddly things but i hope they will work. ill be putting the in tomorrow if i have time lastly i did a bit of shopping day - mostly for my other layout which i should really create a topic for soon. but i also bought a couple of bits for this diorama - two more cars! another focus RS but this time in Red and a Evo 6 in black - the boy racer fleet is growing still waiting on the cosworth project to arrive, i think ill add a impreza or another evo next but we will see till next time .... witherbrow
well - a bit of a bump has occurred - the fences pins didn't really work so ive just glued them down looks raher shabby as you can see but ive managed to get some fencing off ebay which i think will work out better just waiting for that to turn up the other thing was i had a crack at building a 40FT container (pictured) - alas my straight line skills have let me down again essentially its ok but could be better so ive decided to take a different approach - im going to try building the containers but swapping the internal srangtheners for the right angle strengtheners that come with the metcalfe platform kits fingers crossed these work an i have enough haha one other thing is placement of containers on the left hand side at the moment the'll be placed east to west - although im toying with the idea of north-south? any opinions on that? witherbrow
Wow, that looks really good What did you use for the road surface? Sorry if that has been mentioned before hand I can just imagine the road scene... I wonder if the Escort will speed off inbetween the police car and footpath thank you it wouldnt surprise me if the escort did it happened alot lol the road surface is just some scalescenes platform top with metcalfe paving slabs - from what i remember ferry lane never had any road markings at all and i thought that would be perfick although the cozzer does have a slight issue now - the other focus and the evo have turned up the sierra has turned up but ive been sent the N gauge version :( i did weep when i opened it - so im sending that back - if i can get the 00 version fantastic - if not ill have to source another alternative - im adamant on a cossie lol UPDATE!!! just got a message from the seller - they dont have any in 00 so ill be looking a BMW from then instead i think - ive found a print out of a sierra but it will need re-sizing i might give it ago - anyone know of any kits available? bachmanndiesellover
maybe put a little black line round the containers to make them look more realistic or have a few in front..
witherbrow
maybe put a little black line round the containers to make them look more realistic or have a few in front.. i might do a bit of both actually i was always going to put some in front but black around the edges might make them stand out more hmmm.... got some new fencing today - damn it looks good will have a play later
witherbrow
hello all sorry its me again - built another container today using metcalf eplatform joints - unfortunately this didn't come out too well so i called time on that idea - going to buy a new tube of glue and go back to the original way as i said i got some new fencing from ebay, it looks sooo much better it fits alot better too so ive added it to the scene today - im very impressed by its quality and value for money - here a pic of it in situ as you can see ive had to change my plan a wee bit to incorporate it nicely so a bit of greenland should do the trick - ta-daa! there we go green stuff is in - bear in mind though its thicker than it will be once ive taken off the loose bits - not sure wether to do that or drop some water/pva on it now as it looks nice like it is hmm........ unfortunately the road board (which is now attatched to the main bit) has banana'd on me but im still happy with how it all looks so im not going to change it i think all that left now are people and containers and maybe another car
witherbrow
green stuff shaken off this morning - it dont look half bad ! - ive put bits of foliage where it gets patchy but overall it doesnt look too bad ive also put the containers in at the back - unfortunately im cursed by these things not one there was built or cut well im happy with them dont get me wrong its the best i can do, ill leave these on the diorama i think and ill get some others built for me for my other project. and no the digger wont be in the scene these are just some vehicles i decided to plonk on the road im nearly finished with this now all thats left to do is position the cars and populate it - may frame it somehow too ive ordered an impreza (in yellow though ugh) and ive also ordered a pack of three Hornby sierras - ive found drawings online of the cossie and im able to scale it to 1:72/1:76 so im thinking of attatching these drawing and 'coloring them in' - i shouldve really called this thread 'quest for a cosworth' or something lastly im looking for random bits that i could put in the grassy areas for fly tipping (fridges, tyres, bin bags etc...) is there any sites that have wee printable bits? if anyone has any thoughts on this or what else could be done please comment

witherbrow
two deliveries today - the impreza and the 3 sierras tried using the paper print offs of the cossie drawings but i think that it cant be done instead i think i will try to repaint a mark detail with a fine black pen - if that works then that's the way it will go ive also got an Astra on the way but i dont think i can include it here - i also had a look for a frame in local pound shop but there nowhere near the size i want piccy's!!!!!!!!! firstly the impreza and the Hornby sierras im hoping to turn in to cossies still need to arrange the cars and people and get some flytipping - its on my to do list! RMweb Premium M.I.B Posted June 21, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 21, 2011 Fantastic! But please don't forget that Essex is/was the birthplace of UK's "fast VW" scene - beetles especially. And if you don't beleive a humble beetle can thrash a Cossy Sierra, you should have been at North Weald on Sunday. My humble '57 left one for dust, and the owner threw a fit back in the pits If this is at night, and you are considering a yard light (white LED), what about one of the cars showing off its "ground effect lighting" - pink or neon tubes mounted under the car. Known by non boy-racers as "w*nker lights" because you can tell that the owner is a ..... even in the dark

witherbrow
just a quick one tonight - no change in the diorama - i haven't really been bothered lol - but i did get a new car through not the best picture i know but im in a hurry to get to the pub its a new style Astra - not sure whether to put it on the road as i don't think it would 'fit' hope to have some better progress next week
witherbrow
have ordered some wee LED lights from ebay this morning - they come with resistors but i think i wont need them. going on the lines of building LED 'throwies' i should be able to get away with a couple of hearing aid batteries/watch batteries ans a bit of electrical tape to hold them together. i think i should be able to drill a hole throught the base where a car will sit and place the led inside it, when i plop the car on top - hey presto instant boy racer lights - hope to put a pic up soon

The battery stands vertically in a slot, there is a corresponding slot in the base of the vehicle, just drop the battery into the slot and 'plug' the vehicle on top and instant lights. In my case it is a police car with flashing beacon.
witherbrow
lol i don't think ill have a police car on this i have however just taken delivery of the LED's hopefully i can have a play about later with them looking at a golf gti too - im thinking about it
witherbrow
well now after a month of no action i think i may be able to get going again - all thanks to scale scenes i said earlier that i was thinking about some fly tipping to put about and i did look at scalelink - but then forgot lol then i recieved an e-mail from scalescenes about there new kit - household junk lovely! im hoping to build them in the next week so hopefully i can make some more progress - i also need to get down to pound shop to get some cheapo batteries for the neon car lights
witherbrow
had some spare time today so decided to get something done - ive been thhinking about the neon lights and came up with a way to get some working - drill a hole in the base pop an LED through the bottom (with battery attached) then sit the car on top ........... unfortunately this didnt work so i used three led's instead - still no desired effect so i thought sod it haha as theres not much time left till deadline and ive not got much time off in the coming weks ill have to leave it - cars and people are in place im just letting the glue dry so ill post a pic later

witherbrow
just though id post some pictures of the finished scene in case anyone is interested an overall view the owners of the impreza have had a bit of an argie after there loss an aren't talking to each other the winners of the race have a wee celebration (2 ladies together and their ford ooh i say!) the focus driver seems to have picked up a new friend - lucky boy and then the cozzers turn up! heres the chopper eye view well i hope someone likes what ive done here - its not accurate, well done, or that prototypical but it is a fond memory and ive enjoyed doing it shame about the extra inch but theres no point crying over spilt Guinness - good luck to all the other entrants
