Lochinvar
I'm trying to complete the wiring to Peco PL26 contact switches using Peco PL31 push-on terminal connectors. According to the instructions, the connectors need to be "crimped" to the cables, but I'm finding it difficult to locate a suitable crimping tool. All those that I've looked at seem to be far more heavy-duty and specialised than are required for this (seemingly)simple task. Can anyone suggest where I might be able to source something suitable? (I'm assuming that simply folding the tags over with pliers, say, would not produce a satisfactory result?) Would appreciate any advice. jasp
Hi An acceptable alternative to crimping can be solder but if you want to crimp: Cheap crimp tool at Toolstation, part number 82229, price £3.75 Orders post free over £10. They also have 20g vials of superglue, low or high viscosity at £1.01 and lots of other useful stuff I have no connection with the company, except as a satisfied customer Hope this helps Jim

RMweb Gold Phatbob Posted June 9, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2011 Try your local motor factors. Crimped connections are the norm for DIY car wirring so car spares shops tend to sell the tools for them.
Il Grifone
I'm not a fan of crimped connections and prefer to solder. A good joint is certain and you don't require an expensive specialist tool (which I always find has gone walkabout when you need it, but that could just be me! ) You're right that pliers don't make a satisfactory joint.
