RMweb Gold Red Fox Posted June 12, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 12, 2011 Calais Maritime - from the boat With the Hengist/Horsa and the flats in the background I'd say this is Boulogne rather than Calais.
AMJ
Yes I'd agree with Red Fox and a private message from Fat Controller that it's Boulogne Maritime - I should have known as we only used Calais on a couple of times. I sit corrected.
Fat Controller
Yes I'd agree with Red Fox and a private message from Fat Controller that it's Boulogne Maritime - I should have known as we only used Calais on a couple of times. I sit corrected. Before the tunnel opened, I used to use Boulogne, rather than Calais, if I was going onwards by train; I could get a bus from the village to Folkestone, then walk down to the harbour. I love that sector plate- it makes the station look like a model. There used to be a third station at Boulogne- 'Aeroglisseurs', which was on a loop to the south west of the other two, to the west of Outreau- I used it once, in the late '70s or early '80s. There was a hovercraft from there to Folkestone.
jbg06003
Some from me.. One feature of a few SNCF stations which is nice is the display of the track diagram - not intended for would-be modellers, of course, but useful nonetheless This is from Thouars (as you no doubt guessed) CC72186 passes Nangis with 12.46 Mulhouse to Gare De L'Est in July 2008. On the lHS a lovely decaying grain silo complete with a pair of hoppers and yard shunter all quietly rusting away!! View of Poitiers station with typical modern platform furniture and a few TGV-A (July 2004) Withdrawn and awaiting disposal, 68068 at Culmont (July 2005) BB80003 eeking out its last days as station pilot at Austerlitz (July 2004) At La Roche sur Yon CC70062 hauls a TGV bound for Les Sables d'Olonne. (July 2004) Hunners and hunners more of all sorts of bits and pieces if anyones interested. Bruce

jbg06003
Ian, Oh, how I wish - (un)fortunately before my time (at least in France). Lovely, lovely creatures... Bruce
trisonic
First time I docked at Calais Maritime I jumped on a train hauled by a Pacific! Enroute to Innsbruck...........via Basle. At that time I actually like those electrics in two tone green, with the portholes - Lord knows what they were called - but a variant had just got the World Speed Record...... Maybe it was Boulogne - it looked like a dock not a housing development.............................. I seemed to have used all the other routes a lot more particularly, Portsmouth - Cherbourg. Best, Pete.
jbg06003
Pete, Now you're just rubbing salt in the wounds! Sounds a wonderful experience - and I'm still cheesed off at missing out on the RTG's! Things are just not so charming these days - much more Euro-uniform, I guess. Doesn't stop me looking forward to the annual visit - there's still more than enough to grab your interest. Vive la difference..... Bruce
trisonic
These are the locos I meant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMe4WO08BeQ&feature=related I also managed to take the "Night Ferry" in the late '70's - and EMI paid my return fare, ho! Wagon Lits coaches........... Best, Pete.

Kickstart
Hi Few pics from the Transvap near Le Mans last year. RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted June 23, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2011 The Picasso is delicious. I haven't had a ride yet, but did sit briefly in the passenger end last August. It used to be in blue and white (actually bleu anglais & gris argent) on the Breaute - Fecamp service, being refurbished for that service in 1981 when it re-opened. There is a limited-edition Jouef repaint in those colours, but it's rare & a bit pricey. Transvap have a celebration this weekend, now the station at Bonnetable has been finished, and I hope to be there.
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted June 23, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2011 Here's a snap of the station from a couple of weeks ago - how pretty is that? All paid for by the local authority, who made much of the opening ceremony a couple of months back, naturally, with all the usual politicians on the scissor-and-ribbon trick. Kickstart
The Picasso is delicious. I haven't had a ride yet, but did sit briefly in the passenger end last August We went mid week not expecting anyone to be there, but the Picasso was out with a coach party. It had a problem (*) and so they set off with one of the other units to rescue it, taking me along for the ride. I had a look around it once it was retrieved. Friendly people and a good relaxed attitude. They also have a Bagnall steam loco, and Bagnalls works were about 2 miles from my house (I go past them if I cycle into town). All the best Keith (*) - my French is pretty useless, but as far as I could make out it had stalled in gear on a very slight incline, and just needed the weight taking off the transmission so they could get back into neutral to start it. BB17005
A couple of shots of Metre gauge Autorail X74503 on the Chemin de fer du Blanc Argent at Romarantin-Lanthenay in Loir & Cher. I was on my way from Brive to Caen to catch a night Ferry to Portsmouth and took a route that took me close to this line.

meld
Another one from Me ... From July's trip SNCF EMU Motor Coach ZBPD 4909, Preserved by CdT, seen here at the High Level part of Limoges Depot. Unfortunately the "Mole" was out in Force in the Station so we quickly moved on via air-con car comfort! They seem to know we were coming as they brought the 'Weed Whacker' in the previous day apparently Mike
SNCF stephen
So that is what that unit is. I have seen it many a time and wondered what it was. I did think at one time that it might have been a survivor from the Haute Vienne Tramway. This is the first image I have ever seen up close. Do you know if there is any future plans for the unit?
