Leon
Guys, I'm getting frustrated.... I have had the track, points and motors for over a week now but not had anytime to do anymore work....... All I have managed is to paint the backboard white. Oh and sell some stock regrettably.
RMweb Gold MarshLane Posted June 6, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 6, 2017 Hi Leon, Yes we've all been there! Work, family, illness and general chaos means I've not done any serious modelling for about eight weeks . So know your frustration. Sorry to hear you've sold some stock. You'll get back to it! I find it always goes in fits and starts! Rich

Leon
Hello all, Not much progress to talk about sorry, I did manage a few hours last night removed all the wires from the old layout from the underside of the boards, bit clearer now. Started to lay the track in preparation for testing runs and wiring. This time I'm going to fully test all point work before I move onto the ballasting etc. On the first layout I think the track work was to complex and caused problems with running trains, now its more simple. Started on the curve around the top of the layout down into the coal loading site Sound fitted Class 60 used as test train, all ran well after some of the track work had to be cut down. Next job is to solder the dropper wires. Seen stabled in the depot area, the depot will now be kept. Was part demolished but then I thought I need to fill that corner with something so may as well stay as a stabling point. Top curve, I plan to sit this into a double track cutting, leaving enough space for double track but only laying single branch for the time being. Track just seen on the left is the headshunt/siding from the Coal facility. This used to be the marshalling yard on South Wales Freight. Right hand track shows line into the depot, middle track is the spur from the branch into the headshunt then backs into the depot. Left hand line is the branch up into the curve and back down the other side into the coal loading site. Formally there was the motorway crossing at this point. I have reduced the layout track work down so now I only need to fit 4 new sets of points, I have these along with the point motors. former layout was hand operated points. Few more videos to watch on Youtube before I attempt to wire them up and fit. it's surprising, once you spend a few hours and get going and progress you want to spend more and more time on it, I really should have pulled up the last layout a long time ago, I have already ran more trains on this new layout than I ever managed on the last due to track work issues, nothing better than a Brush Class 60 thrashing around......... Leon
Hi all, Thanks for the support. Spent a few hrs in the attic yesterday and managed to attach dropper wires to half of the track work. Even had a litle play with some sound loco's. Reached my 1st point now and trying to remember all the Youtube videos I watched on how to wire them up, I did think I could power the point motor from the track but that does not seem the case and I have also read about CDU's ? Something I need to look into further. Any advice on wiring Peco Electrofrog with PL-10 and PL-13 switch then into a toggle switch is welcome. I will read through the wiring forums on here shortly. Leon
Wiring the track has started. Sound fitted 37 & 60 has been used for testing. Started with the fiddle yard then the track passing the Coal loading facility then into the curve past the depot and out to the other fiddle yard. I have decided to remove the two sidings into the depot area as they are direct from the mainline and I don't think this would have been common practice, I will not be lifting the track work just removing the point. This will still leave the 3 lines in front of the shed building which is enough storage for 9-12 loco's. Edited August 1, 2017 by Leon

Leon
Hi all, Unfortunately no progress on the layout but I have spent a load of money on a Hornby sound fitted class 56. Then I went and spent even more money on a second. Pictures show 1st arrival Oystermouth. Second loco due to arrive in a few days. Then it's on with the layout so I can run them.
Leon
The two class 56's will bring the heavyweight fleet up to 3 Class 56 and 2 Class 60's The 3rd Class 56 with be another local to the area. Both new 56's are sound fitted. Lovely sounds from them.... Edited September 13, 2017 by Leon

Leon
Had an hour so on the layout this evening, small progress on cutting in the last bit of track work, trains can now run from end to end, fiddle yard to fiddle yard. Next job is to drill the holes for the point motors and dropper wires, then the electrics can begin. Also had a little run of the two new sound fitted 56's. They sound ok, not as powerful as the 37's though. Does anyone know where the best place is for replacement Hornby Class 56 buffers ? Thanks Edited September 20, 2017 by Leon
P.C.M
Hi leon, The layout is coming on well. Nice class 56s too. Try Peters Spares for buffers. Cheers Peter.
