The Bits Behind - Can Anyone Help?

Recommended Posts

I am starting to build a model of the Halwill Signal Box for Old Dudders and I have been sent, and have found, numerous photographs of the box. Unfortunately, they only show the step end of the box (very well and with good detail), the front of the box (mostly as a 3/4 view) and the front part of the left (non steps end) side of the box. I'm missing any sort of view of the remaining part of the left end or the rear.

Old Dudders and I suspect that this wooden built box, which had an extension added to it after the building was originally completed, has some brick work in it somewhere. The problem is that we have no good rear views either full on or left 3/4s (we do have a picture of the signal box from slightly to the rear, but taken at a considerable distance - so no detail)

Can anyone from the RMWeb Fraternity help out - either with a description or, ideally, a photo?

Old Dudders and I will be grateful

p.s. Photos of work-in-progress will be posted on RMWeb

I presume first of all that you have these links?

There are some pics in the Middleton Press book 'Branchline To Bude" including one which shows quite well the door & brickwork beneath timber extension as the telegraph line terminations (illustration No.64) while the telegraph pole itself can be seen fairly clearly in Illustration No.65. Alas I can't find any other pictures of the back except the poor ones in the links above.

Yes, yes, yes and yes - sadly! I also have the Irwell Press book and the other two Middleton Press books, Torrington and Padstow, which include Halwill. In fairness, how many pics of signalbox backs does one see? In film days, most photographers had better things to expend their precious money on, I suspect.
