ScRSG
A mate of mine has an EM diesel shunter fitted with Gibson wheeels and outside cranks. Having purchased a set of Brassmasters coupling rods he now wants to remove the rods from the Gibson cranks but can't remember how they were fitted. He doesn't want to apply heat as the cranks are plastic and may be damaged, but thinks they are held on with a washer. Anybody know how to take these apart so he can fit the new rods? rsv1000r
I believe from memory the retainers although not having a hex like a nut are simply that , & are threaded onto a screw which passes through the crank from the back Nigel

RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted July 11, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 11, 2011 Be careful when undoing the nuts though. I think most modellers, myself included, apply a bit of something to the threads to lock the nut on, which can be anything like varnish, nail varnish, super glue, Loctite etc. A bit of care may be needed so as not to b***er the whole crankpin up.
