RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 11, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 11, 2011 In my local £ shop I found a pack of 9 foam sheets in a variety of colours. Each sheet is of a fairly dense semi rigid foam and about 1mm thick. It might be useful for constructing model buildings as it is easy to cut and score, it could also be used to create cobbled surfaces. The one I purchased I found among the childrens crayons and colouring materials.
DougN
Phil, the ones my daughter gets have a peel off sticky backing so that makes them even more intersting... I just can't figure out what to use them on!
clecklewyke
There's a good article on the use of plastic foam for buildings, in the form of pizza bases, in a recent MRJ. If you don't eat pizza, then the same thin sheets can be obtained from art suppliers, as primary schools have used them for years for printing instead of the more dangerous lino and cutting tools. They come under names such as safe print or press print and look to be a very versatile medium for obtaining subtle texture very quickly. I have a box of Easy Print from Pisces - see http://www.piscesart.co.uk/shops/piscesart/Products/PD1936302/Easy-Print-Expanded-Polystyrene-Sheet/?rguid=1adf47d9-a8ac-42f9-abe3-c8afa1f20350 which one day I will convert to a viaduct. Don't hold the press... Ian
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 12, 2011 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 12, 2011 The ones from the £ shop are a little more flexible than pizza bases but not too much and at 9 A4 sheets for a pound its far cheaper than the art shop.
