robbostrains
While moving the HO American layout I recently purchased off E-BAY,onto trestles the CDU fell on the floor. After re- connecting all the wiring the points all stopped working. The CDU unit is a Ontracks controller MT5,it operates ten points, two lots in tandem. The guy who sold me the layout works shifts so have been unable to get in touch. Is there a way of checking if the controller is working?Have tried the 16ac power from the track controller but all you get is the sound of the motors they don't move.Have not got a clue what to do,the layout is wired for DCC,any ideas?Cheers Rob. Brian
Hi Rob The MT5 is rated at 24 volts ac 1.0Amp. You really need a multimeter to check the output of the MT5 and the input to the CDU. But initially, are you sure the CDU has been reconnected correctly? You could try, with the MT5 feeding the circuit, removing the CDU from circuit temporarily to prove its ok or not. To test....Connect the CDUs input pair of wires directly to the CDUs output pair of wires and then try moving ONE point motor. If the motors are connected in pairs on the layout it may mean removing the common wire return wire from one of the two motors temporarily to enable the test.
