Fried sound chip?

Hi, whilst experimenting with different speaker positions in my Hymek (4mm Heljan with a Howes supplied ESU) I've managed to drop the speaker on the live rails. The motor and light functions still work but the only sound it will make is a high pitched screech. I'm prepared for the worst and have the credit card at the ready to order a replacement; but before I do is it worth trying to reset something or attempting to get the chip re-blown or (as I suspect) am I likely to have done permanent damage to the chip?

Tried a different speaker in the hope it was just that which was the problem but unfortunately it definitely looks (or should I say sounds) as though it's the chip.

Cheers

i did something similar once with a 153 chip, it resulted in everything bar the sounds working as the short blew the amp, look at the chip and see if a boxy looking componant towards the non wires end of the chip has burned the outer heatshrink or even smells burned, if so i'd say its the amp thats blown
