JZ
I will be incorperating a turntable into my next layout. I really fancy one of the Metalsmith's jobbies. But the largest they do in 4mm is a 60' model and my longest loco has a 245mm wheelbase. Am I right in thinking that some 60' tts had short extension rails to enable them to take slightly longer loco's ?
Webbo
Hi Jules, If you phone metalsmiths he would have the answer, he gets his plans from Cowens and is very knowledgeable. webbo
34theletterbetweenB&D
It's an exciting idea to try and model extensions or 'outriggers'. The few photos I have seen show the loco tender 'cocked up' at a significant angle, which would be a challenge for a suspensionless model to assume. I expect the tender would have been run low on water for this operation to provide a reasonable chance of balancing on the bridge, but have never read a 'hands on' description of how this manoeuvre was performed. I should think it was wildly popular on a dark and stormy night...
