RMweb Gold Richard_A Posted September 25, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 25, 2011 I've seen a table which shows which us outline diesels have the same or very similar bogie wheelbase as uk ones, but cannot seem to find it. Does anyone on here have it or know what website it's on? Thanks in advance
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 25, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 25, 2011 I have an American book of HO scale locomotive drawings. Almost every switcher has the same bogie centres dimension of 19 feet with a bogie wheelbase of 8 feet.
£1.38
Depends what scale you are working in as to how close they are - you don't say in your message whether it's N, HO, O, G or whatever.
RMweb Gold Richard_A Posted September 26, 2011 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 26, 2011 Im working in oo, it's just that ive recently seen some relativly cheap athearn diesels. I know that i would need some new wheels etc but they would b a good cheap source of decent chassis
craigwelsh
Most UK diesels are 8'6" bogies or more, the table for those is on the CLAG website. The difference will be worse between 3.5mm and 4mm scales too.
298
Im working in oo, it's just that ive recently seen some relativly cheap athearn diesels. I know that i would need some new wheels etc but they would b a good cheap source of decent chassis I "think" you could use a PA1 chassis for a 37, and a SD45 with the middle wheels removed for a 91. Those are two I've heard of and there are probably others, but for 4mm scale there may be better chassis options available from native suppliers, and having seen secondhand examples go the £20 or so, the Athearn option had better be cheap to be worthwhile. Grovenor
Agreed using a PA1 was a viable optionin the days when all we had were pancakes. The bogies are close to but not exact for the EE Co bogies on classes 37, 50 and 55. The loco chassis will have to be lengthened for any of them however, the wheels need to be changed as the originals are small for H0 and the bogie sideframes need to be changed. See here for the work involved http://www.norgrove.me.uk/class37.htm Regards Keith
