Long Line
A big thank you to all the exhibitors, traders, stewards and visitors at this years show.. I've just returned from putting the last items away, so a rest is in order for me.. I will post a report later in the week, once all the details have been digested, Cheers for now Mark
Long Line
As promised some clarifications as to what occurred at weekend...all figures are approximations rounded down..compared with last years, September event.. Adults up 20% Under 18's (free) down 75% Traders selling boxed trains and videos went home happy... Traders selling specialist items and modelling items i.e. tools, adhesives, paints etc... did poorly. Unfortunately it was deathly cold on Friday evening and this impacted the attendance... Saturday was Farmers market day in our village and Sunday was the Manchester derby... Doh!... who could have seen that coming? All who attended and spoke with us, seemed pleased and we felt that the show went well. We were aiming for a friendly event and from what the exhibitors told us we achieved this...a return of the exhibitors 'soup with attitude' may well have contributed to the general glow? It was a long slog as we were a few bodies light on the team but otherwise we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.. and are looking forwards to doing it all over again next year... with a few twists which i will publicize later... A big thank you to all who contributed in whatever form and a Merry Christmas from the Comm-Rail team.. for now.. cheers Mark
RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 13, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2012 i was in poynton on sunday afternoon but couldn't make the show unfortunatly as we had planned to see santa at brookside, and having been the cinema in the morning too, time was against us while there i overheard a family saying they had been to the show, all the dad had to say was "took the kids to the toy train show in town, just a load of middle aged men playing with model trains, bit strange" unfortunatly thats what your up against in trying to promote the hobby to "outsiders", he was a bit of a #### anyway, talking at the top of his voice so others could hear his views on the (in his opinion) over the top prices in the shop we were in
BigAndy
Jim, I think we've all run into ***** like that from time to time. Giving everybody the benefit of their wide ranging intellect.................. People like that would never consider being involved in something as creative and fantastic as building Model Railways, quite simply because they're not capable and therefore the only 'constructive' thing that they can do in their little minds is to attempt the age old 'comedy' of taking the p*ss out of trainspotters. I wouldn't take it too much to heart as these sort aren't the target audience anyway, it's just a great pity that his own inadequacies and prejudices will be passed down to his own children, and they are the ones that we're trying to introduce the hobby to. Never mind, plenty more fish in the sea and from what I know Mr Henshaw is planning on for next year, I would be very hopeful of it appealing to everyone............ Long Line
Exhibition modelling in all its forms puts one into the public gaze, which is very much a two edged sword... Tony Wright rightly remarked to me some years back that "once you've put your head over the parapet wall, somebody will be queuing up to knock it off!" Regardless it is worth it, and as Andy rightly points out, for every negative comment we might receive; there are far more who stare on in wonderment amazed that people are prepared to commit so much time and energy into the craft. Long may it continue. Mark
Crompton Power
Hi folks, I have finally gotten round to taking the pictures I took from Comm-Rail off the camera and a few are attached. They were taken on the Saturday just before closing when I managed to get off the ticket desk! I would like to echo Marks comments and thank all who supported the show this year and made it an enjoyable weekend. Thanks, Keith.
