Cromer Beach Takes shape

Looking back over the years, it is very hard to imagine that this n gauge model of Cromer, on the North Norfolk coast would be over four years before the the first train would run.

The inspiration can after reading the 7mm scale article on Cromer in the late Model Railway Modelling Magazine spring 2007. The model was scaled down to produce a 2mmm scale version, but never can off the drawing board. Back in 2008 the plan was re-drawn to produce a N gauge version. Arrival of the Class 156 DMU's by Dapol provided a further influence to progess. With a working plan thoughts was drawn how to wire this layout, in its simplicity Cromer had to have working SPADS (Signals Passed at Danger) , Colour Light 2 aspect signals with Route Indicators to complete the scene.

These spads and platform 2 aspect signals commisioned and built, One Signal Has the Route Indicator showing "N" and the second when lit to Show "S". With baseboards built Cromer was but into store, without a length of being laid. The British Railway Modelling Apr 2011 had a 4mm scale version of Cromer, Cromer was becoming a family within the modelling scales. At the same time my friends within the 2mm scale and N gauge society begining to ask where is Cromer? Motivation to get something done was becoming paramount.

September came and went, with the track being laid, most the wiring done and last Sunday the first train to run the whole length, faultless too on the first attempt. With luck by next year another Cromer in N gauge will be around.

I hope to be able to post some photographs at the weekend too. Four years from the inspiration to fruitation is this a record.
