Dirty Windows?

How do I make the windows on my card models look dirty? Darker cellophane makes them look like Soho knocking shops, and surely not every window is ever pristine, especially in the city in the days of steam.

Give them a coat of matt varnish. This will kill the shine and make them slightly cloudy without making them looked tinted.

Not tried them myself but if they are as good as the other stuff that John produces I would think they would be worth a go.

Not being terribly accurate with my gluing, I find that all my windows look dirty because they tend to be smeered with plastic cement!

I 'discovered' that method as well some years ago by accident/cack-handedness. Nowadays I wipe a tiny amount of PVA on the 'glass' with a cotton bud.

Sometimes a simple solution is staring you in the face. Many thanks. I have a couple of spare pots of matt varnish - will try dirtying one with the scrapings from the bottom of the dark turps pot.
