RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted November 1, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 1, 2011 I've just had to repair a second Hornby loco after it lost one of the screws on the main crank axle. One belonged to my father and the other to a friend. Spares requests for all Hornby are now directed to http://www.petersspares.com/ And they were quick and very helpful. GW models make a nut spinner specially for Hornby locos which is much shallower making it easier to refit the screws than with the deep ones available in sets from Maplin etc. No website but contact details here http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/suppliers/399-GW_Models 1 Sir Nigel Gresley 70th edition, this lost it at speed and it destroyed the connecting rod, snapping it in half, and bent the coupling rod slightly too as it became tangled in the remains. Required a new screw as it couldn't be found and a new set of valve gear to replace the broken rod. Make sure you quote the R code when ordering spares as there are different sets for different locos and possibly for railroad versions. 2 Tornado, same issue but fortunately this happened as it stopped so the screw was found and only a slight bend to the rod. This also lost a buffer in the packaging so beware these may be loose too.
Deltic
Your local Hornby Service Centre should be able to supply suitable replacement parts - as you mention providing the Rxxxx number helps locate the correct part(s). You maybe even able to identify the actual part(s) prior to this as most Service Sheets can be found on the Hornby site.
