If you know the sender, it simply means his address book's been raided and everyone sent the begging letter. In my case, the "sender" told me she had gone suddenly to Africa, where she was participating in a programme of Aids education, poverty eradication and other good works. Unfortunately her handbag had got left in the taxi etc. etc. Since she is the sort of person who worries about her nail varnish not drying properly, I didn't feel much need to send her the funds she sought.......
