Edit. Since no one has commented on this topic, I'll ask a different way.

Does anyone know about the status of this index & is it worth reviving, if its possible?

It seems a shame that such as resource has disappeared. From memory of it there are indexes that are better (the Model Railway Journal one for example), but Brian's covered a much larger range of magazines & articles.

When I have looked I have found it helpful, but like he said it needed updating.

I seem to recall he asked (on the site) if anyone was interested in taking it over.

Thanks Khris

I don't recall seeing that. Must have missed it.

Judging by the underwhelming response so far, it would seem that Brian's index wasn't used that much.

I'd still be interested in looking at the database, with the view of taking it over if anyone knows how to contact Brian Schofield.

Regards

Sorry Guys,

I forgot to put a contact on the current website.

the index had an average of over 1000 hits per month, Very Seasonal!

The index was advertised for over six months and that I wanted someone to take it over.

I had one contact in Australia, but I suspect that he was put off by the sheer volume of coding involved.

I abandoned the project because I had other things to do, and there was no response to take over.

I was bored with it too.

there was over 100 pages of coding and over 6000 entries.

The project was started in 1980 on an old Apple using MS Word.

I had all the magazines that were listed - approaching 2000 i think, but due to lack of contacts they were all recycled.

I managed to re-establish the index in 1991 on our return from Canada.

I still have all the sql which sould enable someone to pick it up. Although it is much out of date, I think it would still be useful.

Regards to all

Brian Schofield
