cromptonnut
On page 8 (6.2.1) of Railway Group Standard GC/RT5161 it mentions the minimum dimension of 2500mm from the nearest building to the platform face for line speeds up to 100mph. Is this same 2500mm relevant for platforms that extend under road overbridges and similar? I think it might well be as it would be "platform furniture or structure" but thought I'd check just in case.
Guest stuartp
It should be for new builds but there are plenty of places where the old 1800mm / 6 feet rule was in force when they were built. What if anything gets done about it depends on the risk taking into account linespeed and passenger numbers, options range from doing nothing through yellow hatching to fencing it off. cromptonnut
Do you know when the "old 6ft rule" was superseded? Given that my layout idea is around a small single track station on a rural branchline in the late 70's with an hourly service for about 3 people in each direction at most, I'm wondering whether, based on your closing paragraph, 6ft will be ok. micknich2003
New regulations etc are not usualy retrospective, but if a considerable amount of new work was carried out would probably be brought up to date. In most cases, and as far as your country branch is conserned it would remain as built. Mick Nicholson.
cromptonnut
I'll work on the "6ft" rule then, thanks Mick
