John_Hughes Posted May 9, 2013 Share Posted May 9, 2013 The precedent of rebuilding to the correct historical gauge is one that was followed - against all advice, apparently - by the Corris folks. The only other lines using the 2'3" gauge were the Talyllyn, just over the hill, and the long-gone Campbeltown and Machrihanish (and possibly some minor MoD lines). Adopting the 'incorrect' gauge of 2' would have given them access to lots of material, but they doggedly went ahead with rebuilding to the original gauge. Doing so has certainly slowed progress, but I think it's paid off in the long run in preserving the original atmosphere as much as possible. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
