sunshine coast
I knew sooner or later there would be a very good reason for getting a Big Boy for my Maine Line ..! East Deerfield seems close enough for me !!! Regards Trevor ...
highpeak
That would be the move of the Nelson Blount collection from Bellows Falls to Scranton when the Park Service started Steamtown. MEC did have some 2-6-6-2s that were B&M hand-me-downs after the electrification of the Hoosac Tunnel. They spent more or less all their time shoving trains up to Crawford Notch, trials on the Bangor-Portland main line showed them to be too slow. They were too long for the turntable at Bartlett so it was removed and replaced with a wye. Otherwise the biggest engines MEC had were some ex-B&M 2-10-2s that were strictly limited to the main line, as were the 2 Hudsons. The Hudsons really weren't that big, they resemble a B&M P-4 with a four wheel trailing truck. One of the Hudsons ended up being transferred to the Portland Terminal for use as a steam generator to help keep the yard open in winter. Probably the only terminal switching operation that had a Hudson!
