blueeighties
I have been searching in vain for some narrow width tape, to do a trackplan on my control panel. Has anyone come across any suppliers of such a product? Have looked at RS components, the only suppliers I have found seem to be American, and the minumum order/shipping costs would prove prohibitive. Kind regards, Lee. RMweb Premium spamcan61 Posted January 11, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 11, 2012 How about car pinstripe tape? variety of widths and colours here ( black/silver/red in 12/6/3 mm), presumably plenty more sources:- http://www.halfords....10151&langId=-
blueeighties
Halfords! Never thought about that area of supply, just thought electrical/tool suppliers. Thats brilliant, thanks for the suggestion. Regards, Lee.
66C
Hi Lee Another option is to use strips of wood glued on to the control panel and then each track section can be painted a different colour. Suitable strips of wood are often distributed as coffee stirrers - just don't get caught taking too many! These are more durable ( and usually cheaper ) than self-adhesive tape. Regards. RMweb Premium spamcan61 Posted January 11, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 11, 2012 Shedloads on the.'bay:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=car+pinstripe&_sacat=See-All-Categories Seems 'pinstripe' is the magic word, although I'd never heard of it, they were coachlines or 'go faster' stripes in my day. :-)
10800
I've used 'Trimline' by Model Technics for this in the past. Glossy self-adhesive strip in a variety of widths on the same reel and colours. Can usually get it from model shops specialising in R/C cars, boats etc. Google it, there's loads of suppliers. Silver Sidelines
Lee, in a past life I used 'lining' transfers as sold for carriages. Regards Ray
RMweb Gold 96701 Posted January 11, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 11, 2012 My lad drew different colours with bullet point marker pens on paper, put the paper on the plywood control panel, then covered the whole lot with perspex. Seemed to work, and no tape in sight.

rodger5591
Hi Lee An alternative if you are familiar with PowerPoint is to make a control panel diagram as a slide(s), using the lines and shapes toolbar, colour code lines as desired, add whatever text, labels and symbols you need, and then print direct to card/plasticard (if your printer can take it) or plain paper and then glue to something more solid. Then drill/reem out all the holes needed, fit switches / LED, wire up, mount on a frame and use. The big advantage is that you easily include text/symbols on your panel, but also if you extend or modify your layout at any time, its very easy to revise the slide, print off a new copy and then fit switches etc into their new positions and/or add any new ones.
