Isambard Kingdom Brunel
What would you recommend is the best place to look for plans for scratch building wagons? I am inspired by the article in this months RM. I would like to be able to build some Cambrian Wagons for my Welsh Layout.
DonB
The MRN and Constructor magazines carried a lot of wagon drawings in the 50s and 60s possibly into the 70s. Unfortunately I don't know of an index to them! The Constructor did indexes (indeces?) in their early days but stopped IIRC in the mid/ late 50s. A lot of the wagons drawn were of body only, with an indication of wheelbase, one assumes that a RCH standard underframe was implied. Photos obviously essential! Nick Holliday
This useful website http://www.igg.org.uk/gansg/00-app2/gwr/camrys.htm may provide a bit more inspiration, and I would endorse the recommendation for the book on the Tanat Valley Railway as it is full of drawings, although none of Cambrian wagons. The Welsh Railway Research Society has published a book of drawings for the Rhymney Railway and may be thinking of a similar one for the Cambrian Railways. There are plenty of sources of GWR wagon drawings, including this website http://www.greatwestern.org.uk/wagon_draw.htm
