VERY modern ones will have little or no stock, just sidings and some ballast, sleepers, track sections, conduit, etc. Stock tends to be held elsewhere with more security. Yards from the 70's and 80's would have maybe rakes of wagons with ballast, track, sleepers, some "cripple" wagons on a siding, maybe even a small shunter and it's facilities, fuelling etc., some old guards' vans, even an old coach. A good shunter is the Judith Edge kit of the Ruston DE165 0-6-0, bought by BR in the late 50's and used first as PWM 650, then 97650 until the mid 80s.
