Unfortunately the only model shop in Wigan closed a few years ago. Nearest decent ones I know are Penketh Model Rail Centre and Railway Junction both in Warrington. Both do lots of 2nd hand OO. Both are a fair distance from the town centre - you need to go by car / bus. (& both are opposite ends of town - long way apart).

Penketh has a website & advertises in the mags http://www.penkethmo...yshop/index.php Website is a bit naff, but both shop & staff are superb.

Railway Junction at Orford doesn't have a website, is a smallish shop but I allways manage to find a thing or three !! Again the guy who runs it is excellent. His secondhand stuff is clearly & sensibly priced too.

Address/phone no & map here http://www.cylex-uk....n-16387627.html

I've never visited the one Allegheny mentions at Whitfield, must try it one day.

There is a diecast & model shop in Horwich, though I'm not impressed with this shop or it's owner.

Preston I don't know, St Helens there's nowt, (once had a superb shop - Re-Rail now alas gone), after that it's Hattons in Liverpool though only for new stuff there.

Hope this helps,

A bit further away.

The last time I was at the East Lancashire Railway, at Bury, there was a good secondhand shop, at the north end of one of the platforms.

I am not sure when it opens, I was there for a gala.
