Allegheny1600
What a great video, thanks for posting, Prof! "Hi, I'm Jake Jacobson, I'm the president and chief operating officer"!!! What a great way for the head man to introduce himself - simply brilliant! Superb safety record too, a great place to work! Cheers, John E.
F-UnitMad
Love the first run-by shot... two locos, one tank car Also like the notice about hard hats being optional but safety & respect being mandatory. And the shot of the procedure at the switch, unlocking it and locking again after throwing it, reminds me of information in Lance Mindheim's latest book. Great video, thanks for posting!! pH
I've liked the colour scheme on that railway since I first saw pictures of it. At about 0:45 in the video, Jake Jacobson talks about putting together the railway from several existing lines, including Kennecott Copper. Here's 1948 footage of another Kennecott mine railroad in Utah - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enNdho94sZM&feature=related
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
It's a great railroad and great people. Pretty easy to photograph the yard and dumper at Hayden. Here's the dispatcher's office at Hayden... and the magnetic board showing the route note there's only one train on the line, OT1 (ore train 1) heading east in the Hayden Block towards the smelter fro the Ray Mine. Train symbols are wooden blocks with magnets. and here's OT1 arriving at the yard at Hayden
trisonic
Great video, Dr. G-F! What a cool little railroad in the heat. Jake seems a really nice guy. His locos do look in good nick as he suggests.... Best, Pete.
dave1905
The wierdest thing is the map. Its completely backwards from a normal map. It appears they use DTC and only for the portion in red on the map.
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
I do think they need a slightly wider magnetic board... took me a while to 'read' it properly, and I know the property reasonably well. This is what it used to look like before the CBRy days, when it was the Hayden Branch of the Southern Pacific.
