You could always run a Deltic as refurnished Deltics were considered but the decision was made to get new General Motors Co Cos instead.  A wise choice ad they are still running well 40 years later.

 

NIR did get second hand Mk 2s at that time.

Very nice Colin and in 00 scale too! Captures the outside of the original station perfectly, until the authorities in their ultimate wisdom decided to demolish it! Would love to be able to do a model like that and have room for it!!!

Those that follow the thread will know the back story to GVSt and Adelaide, but before my Irish modelling, my first train set was a BR blue Hymek freightliner set. So, my plan is that GVSt will double as a fictitious station known as Glasgow Great Queen Street! It will give me the opportunity to run either my Irish themed or BR blue themed era’s from the 70s!

Sorry for the ramble, but to kick things off, below are a couple of shots of a Class 27 at the head of a Glasgow-Edinburgh train, passing a Class 40 heading to Glasgow from Aberdeen!

 

 

 

 

 

Hi Hunslet 102, just been having a look at this thread after your tip off on the PM. Real shame about he RMWeb photo losses, some great descriptions but a picture is always worth a thousand words....... So skimmed the first couple of pages and been looking at the last few pages with the photos, although I recognise quite a few from your Glasgow based modelling thread.

 

I dont know anything about the railways of Ireland, but love your convincing back stories, its all part the fun (clearly far too much real ale consumed in the snug of the rivet counters arms).

 

And totally amazed at what I read in the above quoted text about your first train set, the Hymek Freightliner set. So was mine !!!!!! I loved it and loved the train set box art as well. Kick started my interest.

 

Isn't this hobby fantastic........😃

Yes, I really liked the Hymek freightliner train set and actually still have the Hymek body shell, some containers and the 60ft chassis!

 It was the start of my enjoyment of the hobby, and before the Irish models became available, I was hooked on BR blue diesels, although not knowing much about them.

Due to varying circumstances, I have not been able to do much modelling recently and the layout has not moved forward, as much as I would have liked.

 I have however, been trying to get on with some projects, to hopefully have some more stock to compliment the layout, when I eventually get round to doing some work on it.

Below are some photos of work in progress. 

 

 

The above 2 photos are 2 of the different types of intermediate trailers that ran with the BUT/AEC railcars.

The next 2 photos are another 2 types of intermediate trailers.

 

 

 

The following photo is the progress on a 3 car MPD railcar.

 

 

Not for the purist or rivet counters, but all the intermediate coaches and one of the MPD units are all powered, sitting on Bachmann Class 108 chassis. The motors are mainly hidden by the luggage/guards section and in the case of the BUT 700 and 900 series railcars will allow the full interiors to be modelled.

 

A couple of coaches, a BUT and a CIE, are also on the go as per below.

Great to see you posting an update again Hunslet, and some smashing kit bashing and etched brass kits from the look of it on the go as well. 

 

I will be very interested to see how these progress and look forward to further updates.

Great to see you posting again Andy and 9 railcars on the go.  Delighted to see some are well advanced and getting near painting stage. They should be good runners with the Bachmann 108 chassis underneath.  Don't leave it so long before your next post.

Thanks Kieran. Hopefully I can start moving forward with some of the projects! I still have 3 sets each of Worsley etches for the 700 and 900 railcars to go with the intermediate trailers and have now picked up enough donor coaches to make a start on them! So all being well once done, they will all be painted in one fell swoop!!

Thanks TT100! Yes, I always enjoyed a bit of kit bashing and it has been good to rekindle that part of the hobby again. 
 

I have some BR DMU projects on the go as well!! I have a soft spot for DMUs/Railcars, probably because that was what I was used to seeing when growing up!
