I've enjoyed model railways since I got my Hornby Dublo 3 rail N2 with two wagons and a brake van for Christmash 1957. This developed into a 6' x 5' table layout in the living room. In the 1970's the loft was converted and I moved to 2 rail with a layout 19' x 10'.
I joined the Ulster Model Railway Club in 1968 in Roseland Place, Belfast and remained a member until I moved to Cork in 1998.
Myself and four friends set up Model Irish Railways in the early 1980s to supply 4mm kits, paints and transfers for NIR and Irish Rail prototypes.
I have also worked in Northern Ireland Railways from 1976 to 1992 in the Secretariat and Operations Divisions.
I have recently moved house so my layout is in storage. I am currently preparing a shed for the railway.

I really like the Volvo estate. A lovely model of a favourite car of mine. -
Is there a suitable Coach that I can display with the UTA jinty? Perhaps an LMS compartment coach. Happy to repaint.

I prefer to solder to the rail rather than to the rail joiner. Firstly it avoids the expansion issue, and secondly if problems are caused by unreliable conduction through the rail joiners, what is the benefit of soldering to the rail joiner?

I am still impressed by the sign at my own medical centre that apologies that they might not be able to give a 'same day' appointment if you ask after lunch time. One of the advantages of rural Ireland. -
My only experience of negative feedback was years ago when I gave negative to a buyer who sent me a dud cheque. He retaliated and claimed he had told me not to lodge the cheque and to wait for a second one. Meanwhile I had sent the item, never got the message referred to but I did lodge the second check when it arrived. This second cheque worked. I sent all the details to e Bay and at my request they removed both negative feedbacks. I was also sorely tempted to leave negative for a buyer who claimed that the Jouef class 40 I sent him failed to arrive. Unfortunately I had no proof that it did, but have used tracked post ever since.

Mark 2b, By Accurascale and IRM!
Colin_McLeod replied to Accurascale Fran's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
Slightly OT but I'm curious as to why the concept of the generator van was not common on BR as it has been in Ireland for decades, NIR, CIE and RPSI. -
What more do you want? A pound of flesh? Something went wrong and Accurascale are putting it right, so let's be reasonable.

Rather than try to find the poor joint, I would suggest making a second, parallel connection to the fiddle yard. Make the connection well past where the trains slow. If that works, then problem solved. The poor joint will still be there somewhere but that doesn't matter.

A garden shed for a model railway?
Colin_McLeod replied to Halton Boy's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
My own layout is housed in a pre existing block built shed that came with the house. I used contractors to get a new roof put on, but I did the remaining work (flooring, insulation, ceiling, lighting, electrics, windows and door) myself. While I am happy with the result it took me a long time, and with hindsight if I was doing it again I would make greater use of contractors so that I could get to the model railway construction sooner. Regarding the size limitations of permitted development, there is always the option to exceed those restrictions by applying for planning permission. -
Is there a "non collection report" equivalent to a "non payment" report?
