Build year for BR MK1 coaches (WR) as modelled by Bachmann.

Recently, I invested in one of each of the Bachmann MK1 Western Region coaches in crimson and cream but maybe it was not such a good idea if some of them were not red and cream in real life.

Can anyone please advise the year the following full size coaches were built?

W 80705 [bG]

W 34139 [bSK]

W 13065 [FK]

W 24746 [sK]

W 3789 [sO]

W 8 [RFO]

W 1900 [RU]

I also bought an LMR BG accidentally on purpose and might also buy the other following LMR coaches because Bachmann do not at present do a WR version in red and cream (build year appreciated):

M 85065 [bG]

M 15019 [CK]

M 15192 [CK]

M 21029 [bCK]

M 21238 [bCK]

Thanks in advance.

C&C - Crimson and Cream was applied from 1948 - 1956

Maroon, and the regional liveries, was applied from 1956 - 1965

There seemed to be quite a gap between build lots for the BCKs.

W1900 was the prototype RU, and was painted Crimson and Cream, with "RESTAURANT" on the side, it was initially used on a Paddington - Weston-super-Mare service.

It is noticeable that Bachmann have taken the first of each allocation for the models.

I hope that helps.

Reply to Catkins:

The information about W 1900 is particularly welcome because I was about to look for a Hornby Riviera restaurant to go in my set of Hornby Centenary crimson and cream coaches with Paddington - Weston super Mud headboards. These look smart albeit they have pre-war Beclawat drop down windows instead of the side sliding vents modification circa 1938. Regarding W 8 restaurant first open, as it was built in 1951, it might be suitable for using with the Hornby Hawksworth coaches that were built from 1949 to 1954. Bachmann have done me a favour by choosing early WR running numbers. I note that up to about 1952 the running numbers on some coaches were to the left and after that date to the right so a blind eye is required when mixing the two types of painting in the same set. A change of glasses and old age helps in this respect.

Most of my books are GWR and LMS so I shall need to look on ebay for the Parkin book or any others about BR MK1 coaching stock.

Thank You for the info.

Searching through other posts on this forum I found out that the Bachmann MK1 coaches have the B.O. (Body Off) date on the sole bar so I have been up and down like a Weston donkey, with magnifying glass and torch in hands, to make a note of the dates on the coaches I have.

Herewith the list which are type / running number / Bachmann number / date real coach was built / B.O.date

MK1 BR (W) Red & Cream Bachmann

BG W80705 39-177D 1955 17/08/1956

BSK W34139 39-077E 1951 25/02/1957

FK W13065 39-152D 1952 12/07/1956

RFO W8 39-252B 1951 13/04/1954

RU W1900 39-105A 1956 14/11/1956

SK W24746 39-027G 1953 26/08/1954

SO W 3789 39-052F 1953 16/08/1955

MK1 BR (M) Red & Cream Bachmann

BG M85065 39-177C 1954 11/04/1956

I have been trying to model 1949 to about 1953 to give me an excuse to run GWR green and BR lined black Halls and Counties, and a blue King, but most recent Hornby and Bachmann green loco's and blood & custard coaches are pitched in the time frame when more WR loco's were being repainted green, and the blood and custard was soon to go maroon or chocolate and cream. It seems wise to accept the inevitable and move to 1955 - 57 ish, and get a few coaches in blood and custard with running number to the left to run as a very early set. Or take off my specs.
