Riddles9F
Hi I'm currently building a DJH Crosti 9F and would like to fit it with sound. Does anyone know what one would sound like? I imagine the exhaust going via the preheater could make quite a different sound. Any thoughts or information would be appreciated.
Riddles9F
Will be a shame to paint it!
RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted March 6, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 6, 2012 I take it will be a full crosti - if you the predominant sound would be the fireman cursing loudly, a chap I know used to fire them out of Wellingborough and I still can't mention the word Crosti without him spitting! I'll ask him next time I see him though ....
Riddles9F
I've had similar comments from a chap who used to fire them at Kirkby, but that was after conversion to "normal"
RMweb Premium 5944 Posted March 7, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 7, 2012 From about 2 minutes in. I've seen the loco once but not working too hard. Bit of a soft "wooof" rather than the sharper bark of a normal 740, especially when starting off. I would've thought a 9F would be similar.
Riddles9F
5944, thanks for that. I would expect it would be very similar to the 9f.
HLT 0109
Found this on youtube - hope it helps. Harold.
Riddles9F
Thanks Harold. A very enthusiastic start off. Sounds good. I have a video of 92214 last year setting off with a full train from Grosmont and it hardly makes a noise.
PenrithBeacon
I don't have any video of an 'original' Crosti 9F with a sound track that I think is authentic, so I can't help there ... but ... I do have video of the converted ones with what seems to be an original sound track, and they sound just like standard 9Fs. HTH
Riddles9F
Thanks Penrith. I suspected the rebuilt ones would sound pretty much like standard as the steam exhaust passages are basically the same.
