Repainting the Hornby Compound and the 2P in BR black (early crest)

I am thinking of buying the Hornby Compound and the Hornby 2P and repainting them in BR black (early crest). Should I remove the transfers first ? If they are transfers and not printed on, what is the best way to remove them ?

Yes, because they'll show through the paint otherwise. They are tampo-printed on which leaves them very slightly proud of the surface, much like carrier film on a conventional transfer.

 

I generally scrape them off with a round-ended scalpel blade - use very gentle pressure and just tease the printing off, if you're careful you can do it without touching the underlying paint. Then give it a rub over with very fine wet & dry used wet.
