Il Grifone
Wheels just came from stock so it was inevitable that some wagons would end up with odd wheelsets, just as odd buffers were found. It wasn't all that common. I can only remember noticing one wagon with spoked and 3 hole wheels. The former were, in any case, becoming less common by the late fifties. Tolerances were 2½" for wear and 2½" for loading, allowing a considerable difference in buffer height. I believe US tolerances are similar (2"?) I understand the NMRA standard for axles is 1" for H0. (A set I just measured is 25mm!!). I have found they vary somewhat.
