RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted April 23, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 23, 2012 Hi. Just a quick heads up for a small but important item I've been advised to use when wiring up my new points. Putting a 12V 5W car lamp in the circuit will help protect your point motor I'm told and indicate if there is a short/fault (by lighting up). I found a really good supplier of the bulbs supplied in holders with tag wires attached at an E bay supplier in Nott'm (EBay ID= parts-department). Edwin_m
This always stirs up a big debate about whether it's the right thing to do. Main issue is that if there is a short the current will still flow, though reduced by the resistance of the bulb increasing as it warms up, but something may still be getting hot near the site of the short.
