Ceptic
I've just spent the best part of s'afternoon, glued to this, just released, library. For example...... http://film.britishc...london-terminus There's a multitude of film recordings available. Enough to keep the historians (on here, at least) delving, for several days (weeks) to come. Regards. P.S. Edit. Link to main film archive. http://film.britishcouncil.org/british-council-film-collection%
Brake Compo
Thanks very much for this - I enjoyed it , clearly shot after December 1941. The preponderance of Maunsell lined olive on coaching stock can be seen.

Southernboy
For a Southern Fan like me that's a great short film to have bookmarked, it has a wealth of detail as well as some wonderful overviews. In particular I love the fact that the station master still wears a tail coat Priceless. Thank you Ceptic.
Ceptic
The period appears to be mid-WW2, in quite a few of the films. (Recordings for posterity ?, just in case ?) The 'London Terminus' is particularly interesting. The shots of an arriving 4-COR (Nelson), with a ship / train load of matelots, dis-embarking. The MN looking for adhesion. (As did others....... Too many to mention) The panelled / steel clad EMU stock (Converted loco hauled coaches ? - needs an expert to distinguish which type !) As you say Southernboy,...The differing Station staff / Train crew uniforms./ Signalbox staff / Permanent.way crew / Station paraphenalia... Passengers' fashion ..et al.. Then, as Brake Compo points out, the liveries of the time........If only it was in colour.!... Was everyday life, back then. always in Black 'n White ?..... .....And, just look at the depth of those compartment seat cushions !...Was that really 3rd. Class ? Cheers All.
