RMweb Premium 47137 Posted June 2, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 2, 2012 A domestic kitchen has an unused fused connection unit, which was installed for a former under-cabinet electric heater, now removed. The FCU is on a dedicated spur of 2.5mm T&E, fed from a 15A mcb at the consumer unit. Would it be permissible to fit a single 13A socket in place of the FCU? My feeling is this would be "electrically loaded ok", but clearly if someone in the future tried to isolate all the sockets by isolating the ring main they could be in for a shock. Possibly the socket should carry an indelible label giving mcb info? This seems to be common in industry, but never in a domestic setting. Any advice from an electrician would be great. RMweb Gold chris p bacon Posted June 2, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 2, 2012 You could take out the MCB and move the tails across to the existing kitchen main to avoid that problem or mark the MCB as kitchen and put them side by side so that if any work is carried out it is obvious that both need to be isolated. Any work in a kitchen or on the consumer unit is Part P.
