RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted July 2, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 2, 2012 John has written some interesting stuff about creating a cutting on his O gauge layout Gifford Street: BRM editor and self-confessed lazy modeller, John Emerson, offers some 'cutting' remarks in his 'lazy man's guide to scenery' as he creates a cutting and tunnel on his N gauge layout 'Gifford Street'. Early railway engineers realised that railways worked best if they could be kept almost level without any severe gradients - so they tried to avoid hills wherever possible, but if there was no way round then they had to bore a tunnel. Here’s how I created the cutting leading up to the tunnel on my O gauge layout, Gifford Street. Typ O ? or a Typ N ? The accuracy police will be after you. Guest oldlugger
An excellent layout that I saw in its infancy at the Doncaster BRM show in 2004 (I think that was the date). Simon
ChrisMRL
Typ O ? or a Typ N ? The accuracy police will be after you. Thanks - you're absolutely right, I have N in there in the first paragraph and O in the second! All put right now, so please tell the accuracy police that I was under the influence of too many open documents at the time ;-) cheers Chris
