Bibby Line
Looking at recent Rebuilt Bullied photos that have been posted on RM Web, despite weathering, the horizontal boiler seam is very evident, Has anyone made an attempt to remove or disguise this casting mark ? Also, the "bolier bands" are often quite prominent (particularly on the old Hornby/Wrenn and cast kit models). My memories of these locos (and photos will show) that from most angles they were almost invisible. I would have thought that on the cast kit versions just the lining and no actual "band" would have looked better. I would much appreciate any reports, even if tried and not successful. Bruciethefish
I generally file/sand off the moulded boiler bands on kit locos, as I've always found them too prominent.. Those on the real thing are just strips of fairly thin metal. I've not yet tried removing the seam on my Hornby Bulleids, but do agree that it's obtrusive, & is a feature that Hornby should really address on otherwise very good models.. RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted July 25, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 25, 2012 I have always been I n two minds about these seams as to leave or remove them. I know they should be there but they do appear to be too prominent. Maybe I I'll have a go at one loco then see how it looks. Ian
Bibby Line
Many thanks for the responses. Ian, good luck with the "trial". I guess if it was just a "raised" seam it would be easier to smooth down. The problem will be if there is actually a "step" between the boiler halves.
