RMweb Premium Martino Posted July 15, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 15, 2012 Ladies & Gents Cast metal fire hydrant signs fixed to sides of railway station buildings. From what I remember these have been yellow with black rised H on them for a long time. Does anyone have a idea what colour they would have been pre 1939 or even into the '50s? Thank you in advance. Bob Reid
Black lettering on white background - black border, so it would seem. See here http://www.igg.org.uk/gansg/00-app1/pfa.htm (down near the middle of the page)...
Ohmisterporter
Thanks for this Bob, what a fascinating read and very useful for setting the scene on our models.

RMweb Premium Martino Posted July 15, 2012 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 15, 2012 Thank you Bob, a great article. Just what I need. I'm very grateful. Phil, thank you too. I didn't know about that although did know of marks on buildings used on Slough Trading Estate during WW2 to indicate to emergency crews the location of buildings. Thank you both again.
