Xerces Fobe2
As many maybe aware the NLL DC lines were partially equipped with American style searchlight signals ion the 1930's there were many varieties of these signals on the route some of which I think were unique if other RMweb's have photos or know of links of photo to photos of these signal s please could your share them, To start the ball rollling here a photo of -"BE1 signal on the down D.C. line line at the north end of Bushey and Oxhey station The two aspect searchlight signal has Colne Junction signal box's down directing distant signals below it. Beneath the directing distant signals is a white diamond which indicates to the driver that his train is occupying a track circuit that indicates his presence to the signalman. The T on the diamond further indicates that the signal has a telephone the driver can contact the signalman on. Beneath the white diamond is an illuminated track dead indicator which would indicate the traction current was switched off beyond the signal if illuminated, then a marker light with a call-on aspect below it" http://www.flickr.co...ngy/7522521580/ Thanks, XF
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted September 2, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 2, 2012 The signalling provided on the dc lines between Camden and Watford Jcn was a simplification of the experimental speed signalling used at Mirfield although the main thing it retained from that was the red marker aspect and otherwise it was more like conventional 3 aspect signalling apart from providing splitting distants. It was never used on the North London Line (NLL) but was originally also installed on the then LMS controlled section of the District Line between Bromley-By-Bow and Upminster. There are some good pics on Adrian The Rock's Roscalen site http://www.roscalen.com/signals/London/CWJ.htm which I also linked the last time this subject came up (although then the question was purely about searchlight signals) and there is also some discussion of it here on District Dave's excellent underground site http://districtdavesforum.co.uk/index.cgi?board=Signals&action=print&thread=15111 together with a thread on The Signalbox site run by John Hinson http://www.signalbox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3711 and there is a past RMweb thread here regarding the end of the system http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/38006-dc-lines-resignalling-1988/page__p__565452#entry565452
