sej
Could anyone give a few tips on fitting Romford crankpins to 4mm scale drivers? They're a very tight fit in the screw-thread and have two small indents which look as though some sort of tool might help to screw them home but not apparently the same driver that helps screw in the wheel centres to the axles. Arthur
Simon, That's strange, you should be able to use the standard Romford Screwdriver for both the axle nuts and the crankpins. I have found that after considerable use the two tips can become worn and they won't locate fully into the crankpins slots. You can file them back to fit or buy a new screwdriver. Is your Romford screwdriver very old? Many years ago the crankpins didn't have those two little slots and an old screwdriver might not have such fine tips, ...just a thought. sej
Hi Arthur, thanks for your reply, you're spot on. I made my own screwdriver for the axle-nuts by grinding an old jewellers' driver. If I put in a long enough slot to clear the crank-pin it should do it. If all else fails I'll buy the proper thing! Regards Simon
Arthur
If you've never actually seen one Simon the Romford screwdriver has a hollow shaft, so it slips, loosely, over the crankpin, whilst you tighten up the base.
