blueeighties
Hi Will, cheers! I did actually....on the Railfreight liveried loco. Didn't think it made a whole lot of difference. Maybe I was too light handed with the marker? Or maybes I should have let the edges dry for longer prior to fixing the windows in place....I'm wondering if the Klear solution has removed the marker ink. dj_crisp
I think I must be slightly heavy handed I use a steadler (not sure it's spelt that way) garden marker pen, making sure the angle of the edge is covered. Maybe the klear has had a slight effect on yours but imo it looks fantastic. Cheers Will
blueeighties
Sunshine. And lots of it today A good excuse to roll this beast out for a few pics. Marker light panels, bufferbeams and detailing, bogies have all been worked on today. A few more little bits and bobs to do before varnishing, and after that it's full lighting. I have some Scottish headlamps on the way from Shapeways courtesy of Peter Harvey. I also need to fabricate the extra headlamp mounting bracket that 81 had. 026 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 018 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 015 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 009 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 008 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 003 by rothburyuk, on Flickr
blueeighties
A trio of Hornby's excellent 56's have found their way onto the workbench. 006 by rothburyuk, on Flickr A full complement of detailing bits and pieces. 003 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 2 of the most noticeable errors (to my eyes anyway), on the model are the strangely recessed roof fan grilles, and the unplated body jacking points. Thankfully easily rectified. 010 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 012 by rothburyuk, on Flickr A rake of PCA tankers to be rebranded and re weathered. 017 by rothburyuk, on Flickr A nice pair of DRS 37 nose ends from the nice chaps at R3 Resprays. 021 by rothburyuk, on Flickr Always seem to have plenty of type 3's to work on! 023 by rothburyuk, on Flickr
blueeighties
A nice week off in Cornwall last week, and now back into it. A small batch of re branding and renumberings. Sometimes the Hornby decals are a right royal pita to remove, the 60 has had her bodysides repainted. Actually when I come to think of it, so has 37675 due to damaged paintwork by a previous owners over enthusiastic attempt to remove the transfers and re brand. blueeighties
Lots of electrickery today. P.C.M
Hi Lee, I think this is my first post on this thread though I have been following. Your 7mm 37 looks superb I will get round to doing mine one day. Nice work on the Peak too. Which brings me to my question. I am working on a Bachmann 37 at the moment which will be 37263, I a wondering when you next do a Scottish class 37 could you do a how to, on fitting the car type headlights fitted to the bonnet with small LEDs as 37263 has one fitted. Cheers Peter.
HealeyMills
Hi Lee, Great work as always. Those headlights look superb and really set the loco off nicely but there's an awful lot of wiring inside one of those locos... almost as much as the real thing!! What is with the odd number font on 081? I can't recall seeing those before, they look very square. Keep posting with updates as it's always great to see your work/ projects..... still patiently waiting for your JLTRT 37111 too Cheers Lee

blueeighties
Moving towards the final stages of detailng on 37081. A first for me, is the fitting of a Shawplan roof grille and fan. Done plenty of them in 4mm, but not 7. It's a lot of work, as I showed a few weeks ago a complete new roof panel is also required, and they are very delicate. But I think looking at the pictures, it has been well worth the effort. dd by rothburyuk, on Flickr 058 by rothburyuk, on Flickr Original and new one. 056 by rothburyuk, on Flickr Fitted and painted 005 (2) by rothburyuk, on Flickr A short video of her under test. HealeyMills
Hi Lee, The Shawplan grill looks superb, how did you join it all together solder or superglue?? The result, which ever way, is outstanding!! Do you chat with Brian at Shawplan much??? Cheers Lee

The fan/grille are secured with Zap a gap, they are so fine that soldering is not really an option, anyone think otherwise? Quite fiddly but they are one of the improvements that make a big difference to the overall look of the loco.

Quite fiddly but they are one of the improvements that make a big difference to the overall look of the loco. I thought you would chat to him quite a bit...... Well when you next speak to him will you tell him that I'm trying to get in touch with him for 3 three class 37/ 40 roof grills too please (I have sent him an email... and called on numerous occasions). I know he's always busy and he does get back to people but hey if you can speed the process up that would be great. I have two 40's needing grills!!! With regards building the Shawplan etch, I have soldered the fan, I just coat each part first with solder, chuck it all together (making sure that at least one of the fan blades is twisted into position, then apply soldering iron and wait As for the grill, I have used solder paste... only a small amount around the retaining hoop underside. A bit of flux on the grill itself and (providing you bend the two items over a Railmatch bottle first) the assembly solders quite nicely. I can see the benefit of using cyano though. blueeighties
Another small but very noticeable detail ticked of 081's to do list, it's additional lamp bracket. blueeighties
Never one of my favourite units...the wheel screeching 142.
