156 in Greater Anglia white

The first 156 in Greater Anglia livery emerged from the shops last week, although it had already visited the East Suffolk line I couldn't get out for it, but a useful email on a gen list and I was in the field just outside Saxmundham, waiting for the 12:17 off Ipswich and hoping that I'd worked the diagram out correctly ...

I had.

I like the pictures, but the new livery is a little odd in the "practical use" sense :O

Do they have a very good carriage washing system at their Depots?

It's so good the logos have already been washed off !

I do wonder if the reason the livery appears slow to be applied is because of the cleaning aspect.

The way it's been applied at the ends, covering some of the former yellow front edges does seem to make it seem a bit stark in comparison to the One livery, almost like it been photo-shopped on if you know what I mean. Perhaps it will look better once it's toned down a bit with some weathering.

Perhaps it's application is slow because they aren't really sure if they like it either ...........

I suppose that as the franchise is so short, there is little point in designing something complicated. They probably feel inclined to re-livery some stock as they promised a refresh of the fleet. Might this also be an attempt to sway the powers that be to extend or award the longer franchise to Greater Anglia?

Having used Anglia Railways, ONE/NXEA and now Greater Anglia, there isn't really too much difference between the services.

At last, a livery we can all paint. Presumably once the snow disappears they will paint it green to continue the camouflage theme? ;)

Wasn't there an ex-Central trains 156 at one time that was half-painted for use in Scotland before the move got blocked. That ended up in East Anglia, if I remember correctly.

Plain white with red doors is the standard livery for Greater Anglia. The franchise is seen as temporary, so a base livery was chosen in order for a permanent operator to add their bits later.

The battleship grey of East Coast is another "temporary" livery. When a long-term operator is found for these routes is anyone's guess!
