SR DUNCAN
Does anyone know which station Michael Portillo is at in the opening sequence to his train journeys around Britain?
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted January 14, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 14, 2013 When he buys the ticket, I'm pretty sure it says Exeter St Davids to Exeter Central, although I don't know either station well enough to say whether that's what appears in the shots. PaulWarb
Hi Wouldn't put money on it but I think it's Torquay. Maybe have a look at some clips of Torquay station on Youtube - see what you think.

SR DUNCAN
Thanks for prompt replies I had a feeling it was somewhere in South Devon.
RMweb Gold D9020 Nimbus Posted January 16, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2013 I thought the scene at the start where he buys the ticket and walks across the covered bridge was somewhere in NW England--all of the opening scenes come, I think, from the first series. I think PaulWarb is right that it's Torquay, if you look at the exterior shot of the station's stonework and metal brackets, and the footbridge that he walks across, they can both be matched very well to pics of Torquay on the internet. I met MP last year - could have asked him then (cough, cough).
