rs4
There's a plus side Ken - the decking I carefully laid years ago is slowly getting painted....bit of NR blue today..... Swifty... I fancied a challenge (to do a few) and the only sensible way was to do a batch. I wanted at least 2 or 3 for myself, but the others if good enough might get sold off. Not trying to break forum rules here by the way.. Edited January 19, 2014 by rs4

rs4
Read read read Look look look Sometimes, a penny drops doesn't it ? One did tonight just before bed. The steps.... From these parts: With a bit of filing, some bending and no cursing they start to come together: Then a bit more: And finally posed by the wagon: Easy when you've worked it out ! Some of the parts are VERY small so filing is very fiddly / nay difficult. I continue....thanks for your support. Tase
Things always come together when one least thinks it will. I think everyone watching this thread knew you'd do it Nick. You know you've got the skill. I presume you had a folding tool? Watching with interest. PS. Now you've got the hang of it you can tackle the FEA-S! rs4
I can only grin at your quip about the FEA S ! I could send it on to you if your offering ?? ; / The folding tool tonight was my fingers, same trick doesn't work with the handrails though..... Folding Tool may come in the post tomorrow, then let battle commence !!
Tase
I can only grin at your quip about the FEA S ! I could send it on to you if your offering ?? ; / By all means send it on.....as long as you don't mind getting something back that won't resemble an FEA! rs4
It's in the post Tase... Hope it reaches you. Further thought overnight & chat with colleague at work. Understand the fret and the rough idea now, have changed cutting technique - now using v sharp craft knife. Leaves virtually nothing to file down. Significantly better. Safety specs ideally required due to flying pieces. Now awaiting the folding tool.. Nothing else to report !

billyb_imp
Great idea and work on the steps What can we expect with a folding tool?
rs4
Not a lot it seems ! Still a damned awkward job. The tool sort of helps but it's still slow and prone to bending and twisting the very fine railings. I'm ploughing on though. Further modules in from George: Slowly building up the stocks of bent metal: I have taken photos of the frets and detail bits. I'll be labelling them up to help other folk if they ever have the misfortune to do this ! Seriously though... Hoping it all comes together.

rs4
Motoring tonight. Better technique and familiarity with it. Run out of handrails to do ! Edited January 23, 2014 by rs4
Jack374
Hi Nick, Truly inspirational modelling you do, so professionally done as well! Doubt I'll ever take on an RHTT, and if I do, mine will NEVER be to this standard Jack
rob D2
It's a good project well done , the RHTTs are a signature train for our times and help break the monotony on a lot of lines..hell, I even saw one on doctor who once ( Billie piper era )
rs4
Thank you for the comments & likes - appreciated. Some preparatory thinking for the next project..... I had some s kits gypsum containers. I've roughly sprayed them up using two shades I spotted in Wilkos. They're pretty close to the actuals, just worried that they are glossy. I may try weathering to see if I can lose the gloss. Paint: And the two together: So.....I wonder what these could be for???? Thanks to Wild Boar Models they'll be having a weathering before their 3D containers arrive. Can't wait. Always nervous though, especially with the investment concerned... RHTT work continues. Handrails & various bits primed. Degreased the detailing parts. Next job is to finish the modules I have. Desperate to fit the handrails but they may need a coat of white and I think they are the last thing to do, maybe even after the transfers so I can get into all the places I need to get into. Later on today I'll be hacking at the remaining modules, glue, degrease, dry then likely prime tomorrow. Happy modelling... Tase
Slightly off topic Nick but I've just seen your video of the Colas 70. Loved the slo-mo action over the viaduct. Very artistic mate!
rs4
Right, I thought it was you but didn't know how to ask (giving out details over the internet etc) Did you receive the FEA-S ? I posted it on Thursday signed for.. ? ; ) Colas done by the Bishop of Colchester. Been on at him for ages since 099 headed Colas way. He's come up trumps as usual. rs4
Last update for today. Modules prepped - file / cut off excess resin from the modules & decks. Using a sheet of wet or dry laid flat I've ensured that the bases to the units and decks are flat and will sit on the FEA ok. Quick wash in soap and a light brush then a soak in white spirit. I'll leave them drying overnight and hopefully glue then prime tomorrow: GLUG
Removed a/c
I missed a lot of these, for some reason the thread wasn't showing up for me. Great job as usual! Regards Scott
rs4
Morning All. Another lovely wet Sunday, ideal for painting. Not. Have added the detail bits to the dried sandite modules (ok, some of these should be added at the end after painting, but I'll touch them in). Handrail to larger module Then glued modules to deck So... Where to prime them ? It's gonna have to be the garage or office (warehouse section !) Can't see these going blue today. Feeling Motorsport hungry... It's been a long winter...come on F1 !
Tase
Looking good Nick shame about the weather hampering the painting process tho! I know what you mean about F1....it's been ages hasn't it? Have you seen this years cars though. Watching the McLaren reveal on Sky yesterday and thought they'd done a pretty good job of the nose as have Williams but looking at Ferrari, what have they done?! Luckily, we've got WRC which started last weekend Edited January 26, 2014 by Tase
rs4
Quick status update, think I need 1 tank and 5 sandite modules to complete the 5. Have managed to prime the modules I had done this morning. As for F1, there's looks and there's the new engine package which looks likely to sound like a bumble bee at full warp. How many finishers will there be in Melbourne ?? Edited January 26, 2014 by rs4
yorkie_pudd
I`m sure all these bits n pieces are breeding behind your back as they keep turning up, at least you got some priming done which is transforming the fleet greatly. At least your rail stock on Deep water yard will never have rail problems with all these RHTT`s keeping the rail in good running order.
